Overview
Nationwide Building and Civils was appointed to deliver a comprehensive enabling works package for a residential development of over 90 units in Bootle, Liverpool, on behalf of a major UK housebuilder.
The project combined demolition, remediation, and civil engineering works to transform a brownfield site into a fully serviced platform for residential construction. The integrated approach ensured programme efficiency while meeting strict environmental and regulatory requirements.
The Challenge
The site presented contaminated soils, buried obstructions, and a prominent roadside structure requiring controlled demolition. In addition, contaminated groundwater required ongoing treatment, all within a constrained programme and strict environmental controls.

Services
Provided:
- Asbestos removal and hazardous material management
- Scaffolding and controlled demolition
- Site remediation and validation
- Groundwater treatment
- Roads, sewers, and civil engineering infrastructure

Our Solution
A phased and coordinated strategy was implemented to manage demolition, remediation, and civil engineering works concurrently. The roadside structure was demolished using engineered scaffolding and protection systems to maintain safety.
Groundwater treatment systems were deployed alongside remediation works to manage environmental risk, while infrastructure installation was integrated into the programme to accelerate site readiness. This approach ensured efficient use of time and resources while maintaining compliance.

Delivery
The project was delivered safely, on time, and in full compliance with environmental regulations. Strong coordination between disciplines minimised delays and ensured a seamless transition between phases.
Outcomes
- Brownfield site remediated to residential standards
- Controlled demolition of complex structures
- Successful groundwater treatment programme
- Fully serviced site delivered on time and within budget
